Günter Gloser, Minister of State for European Affairs ret. – born 1950 – is member of the German Parliament since 1994. Inspired by Willy Brand´s politics of peace in the 1960s he started his political career by joining the SPD (Social-Democratic Party of Germany). Since then he has gone through a number of different positions in regional and national governmental institutions and thus got in touch with diverse aspects of politics. According to his political attitude his main interest lies in strengthening the social justice in Germany and Europe and in promoting a sustainable development – not only in an ecological, but also an economical and primarily a social way. As primary labour market specialist - with a longstanding experience in the German Federal Labour Office – Günter Gloser addicted himself with his entrance in the German Parliament a new task field: Europe. His function in the German “Council for European Affairs” opened him a new, wide range of political engagement, which culminated in his administration of the office of the “Minister of State for European Affairs”, which he held between 2005 and 2009. Linked with his political career, he directs his special interest to a policy of peace and Human Rights. Above all, Günter Gloser tries to involve the youth in political and other very important themes, for example Europe. Consequently he promotes diverse youth projects – such as FACE - and hosts an annual summer academy for interested young citizens of Nuremberg. Furthermore he has been patron of the 11th FACE Meeting in Nuremberg and expresses his appreciation for this association with these words: “This network provides a great opportunity for young people to find out about the cultural diversity of the continent and to appreciate it". |
