Settling in comfortably in Avola

Blog entry 9.12.2020

It is quite quiet in Oasi Pacaru at the campsite.

The days are getting noticeably cooler, wind accompanies us and occasional short rain showers prevent too many excursions.

Today we took a walk through Avola with Otto and Eva, but were rather disappointed by the old town. Syracuse certainly has older architecture to offer. Avola in its present form was built after an earthquake in 1693. It was only rebuilt in 1795 in baroque style on the site where it is today. Originally, the town was 8 km away, where its history dates back to the 2nd century BC.

We bought a big bag of chestnuts today and finished the walk with a portion of french fries and a beer at the beach bar.
